FIRST CONSULTATION

Your First Eye Consultation

Please call my secretary on 01823 772 728 to arrange your first comprehensive eye consultation.

What should you expect at the first consultation?

Free parking is available for all my private patients. On arrival at reception, you can wait at the private waiting room where free tea or coffee is provided. After you complete a visual field test, dilating drops may be put into your eyes. The drops allow a comprehensive eye examination but they do blur the vision for 3-4 hours. I will call you to the eye examination room where a detailed ophthalmic and medical history is taken. This will highlight your current eye problems and the nature of any previous eye problems or treatments you had. It will also include any other medical problems you have. To tailor your needs to your requirements, a social history is taken to establish your visual needs relating to your career or hobbies. A detailed eye examination is then completed and further investigations using equipment in the eye room are completed. I will then provide you with a provisional diagnosis and a treatment plan. A letter detailing the findings and outcome of the consultation will be written to your GP and Optometrist and copied to yourself too.

What should you bring to your first eye consultation?

It is useful to bring the details of your latest spectacle prescription and any relevant details from your GP, Optometrist and optician. If you wear glasses, please bring them too. Also, bring a list of any medications you take and name the allergies that you have. It is suggested not to drive back after your first consultation as the dilating drops can blur the vision for 3-4 hours.

How long will the eye consultation take?

The first consultation is important and it takes as long as is required to establish the nature of the problem. In practice, this usually takes 30-40 minutes with me. I strive hard to comply with your time of appointment, but due to the nature of medical problems being variable, apologies are made in advance for any delays. To find out about my fees, call me.
